NEW STANDARDS Have you heard of the Core Curriculum Standards? Well, you will! Alabama is getting on board with the National Standards and you can click here to see how that will impact how Alabama teachers will teach and what Alabama teachers will be teaching. The mission statement is simple: The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy. The state of Alabama has a document (download here) that has been created to detail the standards for all classroom teachers grade K-12. I have a copy of both of these large documents in my room! I am learning the lingo and passing it along to your kiddos. I know in my classroom, I am beginning to implement these new standards so I can get my kiddos ready for the new types of tests and learning they will be up against. If you are a teacher or curious parent, there is a smart phone application for the national standards! I have been playing with it all summer. I LOVE technology and I have as many apps as the kids do! If you don't have a smart phone and would still like the app, click below and ENJOY!

TAG! YOU'RE IT!
Today, Mr. Parker brought an amazing motivational speaker to BJHS and the students had a blast and learned a lot! Click here to read more about the Tag! You're It! program created by Larry Ransom and Michael Peterson, "to help young adults think about their direction in life." I have a few videos from the presentation and I'll post them below as soon as get permission. Did you know BJHS has a student that can rip a Nashville phonebook in half? WE DO! All things are possible with the right motivation, support, and PLAN! My favorite quote today was a questions, Mr. Peterson asked the kids, "What would you do with your one wild precious life?" I may change my journal prompt today because I LOVE IT! I would love to see how my kiddos answered this questions.
