Homework
If I assign it, that means you really need to do it. Either we didn't get finished in class so you had more left to do or something got in the way or we just need more time/practice. When homework is assigned, bring it to class the following day unless given a specific due date. ALL HOMEWORK IS DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS! Have it ready to turn in when you walk in the room. I will post homework here and any links that can help you complete the work!
Read your summer reading book, review study guide (I will not take up for a grade), and anticipate summer reading book #2 project. Get all homeroom paperwork signed by you/parents and return Wed to your homeroom teacher. Begin getting your supplies the teachers have asked you to bring to class and any donations too! Also, don't forget my syllabus...if you want the free grade!
January 3 - First Day and welcome back! Get syllabus signed and start gathering supplies for class: journal (to be left here), notebook with paper or spiral for class, blue/black pens, pencils, and one (1) item from the donation list: tissue, hand sanitizer, highlighters, copy paper, or colored paper. Also, FINISH your summer reading book if you haven't. The test will be Thursday, January 16th. Book 2 assignment is due Feb 6th.
January 4 - Return syllabus and get all your supplies you need for class. Continue to read summer reading assignments.
January 7 - Finish "All About Me" essay (in class) and secure your VMWare password/Edmodo password/USA Test Prep password. Continue to read summer reading assignments. See tech file at the bottom of this page if you are having trouble setting up your accounts. :)
January 8 - Upload your "All About Me" essay to the Edmodo website and complete any online profiles for our school softwares. Continue to read summer reading assignments.
January 9 - Complete 2 journals: 1) Tree, Tree, & Prespositions and 2) Response to quote drawn from cup; Discussed quotes and made out responses "college level" appropriate - don't just write like you did in 7th grade but dig deeper with everything you think, say, and do. Small groups to partner up students with "like" quotes and then discuss amongst yourselves and finally sharing with class a new more grown up response. Intro to poetry and Haiku. Took notes over elements of a Haiku poem: season, juxtaposition, simile/metaphor, 5-7-5, and illustration. Everyone wrote a 2 stanza Haiku about themselves. Bring both Haiku tomorrow and make sure you have counted your syllables for accuracy! Continue to read summer reading assignments.
